| Turkey's prime minister said on Monday that concepts of justice and equality could not change from person to person or country to country. Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan attended an "International Women's Rights Summit" held at the Justice & Development (AK) Party headquarters in capital Ankara. Speaking at the summit, Erdogan said, "It is outdated and inhumane to think that some people deserve all kinds of rights and freedoms, however, a certain group of people should accept to live in deprivation". Pointing to the status of women all around the world, Erdogan said women were the first target in conflicts, wars and terrorist attacks, moreover, they were affected the most by economic crises and were not treated equally in work environment. "In addition to these difficulties, they are faced with sexual harassment, discrimination, social oppression, taboos, as well as torture and murders conducted under the name of customs and traditions. This clearly shows what a heavy load women are carrying on their shoulders," he said. Noting that women's problems should be taken into consideration regardless of their countries or nationalities, Erdogan said, "We cannot discriminate or ignore". Erdogan also said that Turkey was currently more determined and courageous than ever regarding women rights. |
